Phone contracts that come with a phone last a full two years, meaning you're typically stuck with the same handset until renewal time. Recently networks have been offering perks that let you upgrade after shorter periods of time, and EE is the newest. It has launched a new 'Upgrade Anytime' system that lets you upgrade your phone whenever you like.
If you're a year into your contract, and are willing to trade in your existing phone, EE will graciously let you upgrade to a new 24-month plan without any extra charges. Anytime between 15 days and six months will cost £200 to upgrade, with a six to 12 month upgrade dropping that price to £100. Those are assuming you trade in your old handset as well, because if you don't EE will have some new fees to add to your bill - how much depends on what new phone you're getting. Those same fees apply if your phone is damaged.
Unfortunately Upgrade Anytime is not a universal perk. It's only available on EE's pricey Max plans, and then only with certain handsets. Currently that includes the Google Pixel 2, Google Pixel 2 XL, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone X, Samsung Galaxy S9, Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus, Samsung Galaxy Note 9, Samsung Galaxy S8 and Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus. You can probably expect that list to increase whenever new flagships launch.
So now whenever a new flagship phone comes out, you don't need to be envious of the people who waited a few months longer to get their new device. You can just get on the phone to EE and grab yourself an upgrade.
