Last month it was announced that the stable version of Android Pie was ready for the OnePlus 6, and was rolling out to select handsets. OnePlus 6 owners round here will have noticed it never arrived for them, and there's a reason for that. Turns out the proper UK rollout wasn't part of that. Instead, it's kicked off today.
OnePlus has announced it this afternoon, so if you head over to the software update page you should be able to upgrade to the new software. I can anyway, as you can see below:
There's a new UI, which was to be expected, the latest security updates, better 'Do Not Disturb' settings, and more. There's also support for Android Pie's own gesture navigation, though how that will affect OnePlus's existing gesture control isn't clear. I haven't had chance to update and tinker yet.
The two and a half month wait might not be ideal for the Android purists, but it's pretty good going for an Android developer. Far better than Samsung's meagre attempts anyway.
There's still no word on when Pie will hit the OnePlus 5, 5T, and 3T, but now the 6 is out of the way and the 6T is almost here, things should be underway pretty quickly.
