The New Black Mirror Film 'Bandersnatch' Is Out Soon

By Holly Brockwell on at

Remember when Netflix accidentally tweeted that the Croydon episode of Black Mirror, Bandersnatch, would be out on the 28th of December? And then deleted it?

Well, it is indeed out tomorrow. Here's the trailer:

Set in 1984 (obviously), the episode is described thusly: "a young programmer begins to question reality as he adapts a sprawling fantasy novel into a video game and soon faces a mind-mangling challenge."

We say episode, but it's really more of a film: it looks like Bandersnatch will have a feature-length running time of 90 minutes, and it was described as "A Netflix film" before the streaming site realised they'd let the cat out of the bag too early and deleted everything.

The episode was filmed in Croydon, which was deemed not post-apocalyptic enough and dressed up in 80s garb for the show:

The gorgeously retro-futuristic Number One Croydon building by East Croydon station is featured prominently, as it should be -- we've always thought it was an unappreciated bit of architecture.

Are you excited for Bandersnatch? Gonna buy some sherbet flying saucers and Marathon bars to tuck into while you watch? Let us know in the comments.
