The Kids Love Reverse-Vending Away the Plastic Bottles

Iceland, the high-end food destination of the social elite, has said that its trial of reverse-vend plastic bottle deposit machines has been a roaring success, as customers, particularly children, have been having great fun and earning BIG by feeding their plastic empties to the first wave of bottle recycling machine.

The supermarket, which some describe as the "Harrods of the frozen sector," says its recycling machines have paid out more than £30,000 in deposit return money in total so far, thanks to shoppers who live near branches running the trial bringing in 311,500 plastic bottles for recycling. Each bottle fed into the machine earns the depositor a 10p voucher to be spent in the shop, which, with the vast ranges of luxury items and treats on offer within, is quite the reward.

Iceland MD Richard Walker said: "We’ve gained hugely valuable insights into both consumer interest and the functionality of the schemes, and it’s clear from the results that consumers want to tackle the problem of plastic head on, and would be in support of a nationwide scheme." [Sky News]
