Lego Wants You to Recreate Epic Star Wars Battles for Mega Prizes

By Holly Brockwell on at

If you've always fancied yourself a bit of a Lego Master (and who hasn't), there's a new Lego Ideas competition you need to know about.

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of Lego Star Wars (christ we're old), Lego is asking people to create their own block-built take on the big battle scenes from the franchise.

You've got until May the fourth (geddit) at 10am, technically, but the rules say you should actually submit a few days earlier than that so Lego has time to get back to you requesting any changes. The 4th is ages away, so there's no excuse not to get your creation in on time.

You can build your scene with proper Lego or in Lego Digital Designer, and you're allowed to use Photoshop to touch it up, including battle effects and lit-up Lightsabers and such. However, you're not allowed to cut, glue or otherwise modify the physical bits of Lego in your submission.

The grand prize is a bit special (that's the one in the main picture):

  • The super exclusive 4521221 Chrome Gold C-3PO LEGO Star Wars Minifigure produced in 2007 for the 30th Anniversary of Star Wars. Just 10,000 of these were ever produced!
  • 10198 Tantive IV from the 2009 Anniversary collection
  • 75258 Podracer from the 2019 Anniversary collection
  • 75259 Snow Speeder from the 2019 Anniversary collection
  • 75243 Slave 1 from the 2019 Anniversary collection
  • LEGO Star Wars merchandise

And two runners up get:

  • 10225 LEGO R2-D2™ from the 2012 collection
  • 75060 Slave 1 from the 2015 collection (UCS)
  • 75258 Podracer from the 2019 Anniversary collection
  • 75259 Snow Speeder from the 2019 Anniversary collection
  • 75243 Slave 1 from the 2019 Anniversary collection
  • LEGO Star Wars merchandise

However, you do have to adhere to the Lego brand values, so no being an edgelord and including any of these things, even though some of them are definitely in Star Wars:

  • Politics and political symbols, campaigns, or movements
  • Religious references including symbols, buildings, or people
  • Sex, nudity, drugs, or smoking
  • Alcohol in any present-day situation
  • Swearing or profanity
  • Death, killing, blood, terrorism, horror, or torture
  • First-person shooter video games
  • Warfare or war vehicles in any modern or present-day situation, or national war memorials
  • Large or human-scale weapons or weapon replicas of any kind, including swords,
  • knives, guns, sci-fi or fantasy blasters, etc.
  • Racism, bullying, or cruelty to real life animals

You'll be judged on four criteria (sadly not style, control, damage and aggression):

  • Overall coolness and originality: 25 per cent
  • Most inspired details: 25 per cent
  • Relevance to contest theme: 25 per cent
  • Best use of Lego elements: 25 per cent
