It's almost time for the last season of Game of Thrones, and brands are jumping all over the bandwagon while they still have the chance.
The latest to announce a GoT tie-in is dating site OKCupid, which has rolled out a profile badge showing whether you watch the series or not. They say that "based off previous badges and the amount of mentions of GoT within profiles, OkCupid predicts 20 per cent more likes and 15 per cent more conversations for those with the badge."
To get the badge, you just have to respond 'yes' to the Game of Thrones question on the site. You will of course need an OKCupid account.
OKCupid CMO Melissa Hobley comments while sitting on a horse:
"When we saw the millions of OKCupid users connecting over TV, specifically Game of Thrones, we knew we had something special.
Matching on what matters is our north star at OKCupid and television shows really do matter in today’s culture. We’re excited for how many matches will result from this profile badge worldwide."
("North star" is Silicon Valley wankspeak for "our guiding principle.")
The blog post on the new badge also gives some user data on singles' opinions of the show itself:
Interestingly, by matching Game of Thrones answers with the rest of the questions people had answered on their OKC profiles, the site found that pro-Brexit users wanted the Lannisters 'to win the Game of Thrones,' whereas anti-Brexit users wanted Jon and Daenerys.
Well, doesn't that just say it all?
