Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, Second of her Name,
Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea has managed to send an Instagram post, and thus we, her loyal subjects, must applaud.
Sadly, Her Maj hasn't herself joined Instagram -- we were excited for duckface selfies (by which we mean selfies with actual ducks) and crown emojis, but it wasn't to be.
The post is on the Science Museum's account and announces its new Top Secret exhibition (that's the name of the exhibition, it's not actually secret. Quite the opposite, since we're writing this from a press release).
The Queen also sent her first tweet from the Science Museum back in 2014.
The new exhibition is free and explores everything from ciphers to cybersecurity, with objects including the Enigma M1070 machine. It opens on the 10th of July and coincides with GCHQ's centenary. Not sure many people will be buying them a slice of cake after this debacle, though.
Sir Ian Blatchford, Director of the Science Museum Group, comments:
"It is always a pleasure to welcome Her Majesty to the Science Museum, and I am delighted that HM The Queen has taken the opportunity to post on Instagram for the first time and announce Top Secret. our fantastic new exhibition.
This exhibition tells the incredibly important story of the hidden work that goes into keeping us safe every day. I’m thrilled that our expert advisors, GCHQ, have entrusted us with some of their most important objects, many of which are going on public display for the first time. Through this exhibition we want to engage people in the incredible work of our intelligence services and ignite their curiosity about future possibilities."
After it closes in London, Top Secret will move to the Science and Industry Museum in Manchester next year, then might go on tour elsewhere.
