GoPro has brought the full benefits of its GoPro Plus subscription to the UK (and 24 other countries), meaning you can now get a replacement if something happens to your camera, just like you've been able to in the US for ages (*shakes fist*).
GoPro Plus costs £4.99 a month in the UK and has three main benefits:
Obviously the big one for most people is going to be the middle one – a peace-of-mind guarantee that if you wreck your camera, you can get a new one. Of course, you could just take out normal gadget insurance on it, but not many people think to do that – until it's already broken.
GoPro CEO Nick Woodman comments on the subscription:
"Part of what makes a GoPro special is that you can use it in any situation.
With the GoPro Plus damaged camera replacement benefit, subscribers can have the confidence that their camera is covered, no questions asked."
The operative word there is "damaged" – if it's stolen, you're still out of luck with this scheme. However, you can get up to two cameras a year replaced, as long as they're Fusion and Hero 5 models or later, so if you have a habit of dropping your GoPro down mountains while capturing badass video adventures, this might be the plan for you. You just need to return the camera in the packaging they'll send you within 45 days of receiving it.
The subscription scheme has a 30-day free trial in the UK to start you off, and you can sign up here. If you don't have a GoPro yet, check out the sweet deal John Lewis is doing on the Hero 7 Black at the moment. [Pocket Lint]
