Haynes car manuals are pretty iconic in the design world, as are Star Wars' TIE Fighters. Just in time for May the 4th (Star Wars Day), the two are coming together in a fully licensed and authorised new book.
Haynes' Star Wars manual promises to be "the most thorough technical guide to the TIE Fighter available," including lots of photos, schematics, CGI artwork and a specially-commissioned cutaway.
The manual is written by Ryder Windham, who has apparently authored and co-authored more than seventy books about Star Wars. Honestly this has made us feel like slackadaisies, we haven't even managed one.
The book details the evolution of Sienar Fleet Systems’ twin ion engine space superiority fighter, with everything from early concepts and prototypes to bombers, boarding craft and shuttles. There's also plenty of delicious detail about weapons, defensive systems, pilots, training and gear.
Oh, and there's a size comparison chart for Imperial and First Order ships, too.
Ryder Windham takes a break from writing all the books in the world to comment:
"Just as the Galactic Empire used great fleets of starships to expand Imperial control across the galaxy, the subsequent authoritarian government, the First Order, used even more technologically advanced ships to unify planetary systems and crush all opposition.
With both regimes, the most abundant and ubiquitous ships in their respective fleets were the notoriously lethal TIE fighters. Variant models of the TIE fleet include the prototypes piloted by Sith Lord Darth Vader in the battle of the first Death Star, and by Kylo Ren during the First Order’s war with the Resistance.
In this manual, we have strived to provide the most thorough technical description and operating guide available for the various TIE fighter variants, making it essential reading for all Star Wars fans."
This isn't Haynes’ first Star Wars manual -- they also publish titles including the YT-1300 Millennium Falcon Owners’ Workshop Manual and Death Star Owners’ Workshop Manual. Because there are so many Death Star owners kicking about...!
The Haynes TIE Fighter Manual is available now for preorder in hardback, priced at £18.99.
