The OnePlus 7 Pro 5G Arrives on 30th May With EE

The OnePlus 7 Pro 5G is coming to EE. We've known that since February, and got a nice little reminder about it at the OnePlus 7 launch last week. What we didn't know was when the phone was coming, because EE's 5G network wasn't ready. Well we have some news. With the announcement that EE's 5G network will be going live on 30th May, the network has also announced the OnePlus 7 Pro 5G will arrive at the same time.

That means the UK's first 5G phone will be the OnePlus 7 Pro 5G, which is becoming quite the mouthful. Unfortunately, as we noted yesterday, EE does not seem to be selling the standard 4G 7 Pro, so if you want to use the 7 Pro on EE you'll either have to scrape together the money for a SIM free model or pay up for all the 5G. And you will have to pay up, because the cheapest plan is £59 a month (with £170 upfront) for 10GB of data and two swappable benefits. You can get the same allowances for £100 less with one swappable benefit, but that is a 4G-only plan. A 5G phone without 5G is a bit of a pointless purchase, really.

The deals go as high as £79 a month, with £30 upfront, which will get you 120GB of monthly data and 3 swappable perks. In other words 5G isn't cheap. Not with EE anyway, because Vodafone has already said 5G wouldn't cost customers any extra.

The only difference between the OnePlus 7 Pro and its 5G sibling is the 5G. According to OnePlus the phone is the same size, the specs are the same, but the internal hardware has been modified to make room for all the extra bits needed to connect to 5G infrastructure. Sadly this also means the battery is the same size, since OnePlus has not increased the capacity to account for any extra power drain caused by the 5G hardware.

You can head over to EE to pre-order the OnePlus 7 Pro 5G right now, though the only model available is the Nebula Blue with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. So if you'd rather get the one with 12GB of RAM, in Mirror Grey, or you just want 4G version, you can check out the best UK deals right here. After all 5G will only be available in a handful of locations, and if you live in the middle of the Yorkshire Dales you're not going to get anything out of this particular device.
