American Express customers heading to Wimbledon next month can face off against Andy Murray on the iconic Centre Court - in virtual reality, that is. Although I don't know how fun it's going to be having him breathing down your neck.
The Champion's Rally VR experience for the HTC Vive will see a virtual Andy Murray watch over you as you take on various challenges to demonstrate your prowess.
"The level of detail and accuracy is amazing, it really does feel like you’re stepping out onto one of the world’s great sporting arenas," said Andy Murray, who is talking some measure of bollocks here. "It was a bit odd meeting my virtual self, but I had great fun playing the game. I’m looking forward to seeing everyone have a go on Centre Court – so long as you don’t beat my score!”
Once you've given it your all, players will be ranked on their performance, and will be dubbed Beginner, Wildcard, Pro or Champion.
If fannying about with a headset on, helplessly swatting at a virtual Andy Murray isn't your cup of tea, then perhaps you'll enjoy the other perks of the American Express Fan Experience, like the hammock house where you can take a load off, and juice up your phone. Or the weird " American Express postal service" that lets you send postcards to recipients that aren't good enough to be in your contacts list or on social media.
And let's not undersell the ‘Don’t Wimbledon Without It’ flower wall that you can take a photo in front of. Exciting stuff.
In addition to all of that, American Express customers will have access to the "Cardmember Lounge, in-ear radios featuring a live broadcast of the matches, as well as a Cardmember offer where fans spending £120 cumulatively at the event on an enrolled eligible card, will receive £20 back as a credit on their next statement."
You'll find the Fan Experience in the Southern Village and it'l be open 10.30am - 7pm from July 1 to July 7.
