Amazon's attempt to invest in Deliveroo is on the ropes again, as the Competition and Markets Authority has pressed pause on the whole shebang.
Both Amazon and Uber wanted to snap up the delivery service last year, around the same time as Amazon threw in the towel on its own food delivery service.
The watchdog is currently considering a launching a formal investigation based on concerns that following the investment the two companies will “have ceased to be distinct.”
"There are a number of major companies within the restaurant food delivery sector and this investment will enable Deliveroo to expand, innovate and, we believe, will enhance competition,” said a spokesman for Deliveroo.
"This investment will help create jobs, help restaurants to grow their businesses and will improve choice for consumers."
With the enforcement order in place, the parties are still able to have a natter, but there'll be no swapping of sensitive information or key staff for now.
