BT is launching 5G for its customers this autumn and BT Plus customers get first dibs on upgrading.
BT will use EE's 5G network which went live at the end of May in six cities, but by the time BT's mobile customers get access to it, an additional 10 cities will potentially have been added to the list.
As a refresher, by the end of the year, BT Mobile customers - and by proxy EE customers - will have access to 5G in London, Birmingham, Manchester, Edinburgh, Cardiff, Belfast, Glasgow, Newcastle, Liverpool, Leeds, Hull, Sheffield, Nottingham, Leicester, Coventry and Bristol.
“We’re bringing together the best fibre and mobile connections to help keep our customers connected, both on the go and at home," said BT's Marc Allera. "Launching 5G for BT customers will give them the opportunity to experience the fastest mobile speeds in the busiest areas of the UK, and our BT Plus customers will have the first opportunity to sign up for 5G.”
Both BT and BT Business customers will be able to upgrade, while BT Plus customers will be "given the option to be the first to upgrade," although exactly how much sooner hasn't been clarified just yet.
