Sainsbury's Elbows Its Way Into the World of Pizza Delivery With Deliveroo

Deliveroo and Sainsbury's are joining forces for a two-month trial that will see the supermarket be the first in the UK to offer piping hot takeaway deliveries.

The trial kicks off today in Birmingham, Brighton, Cambridge and London, allowing customers to order freshly-baked pizzas, sides, salads, soft drinks, and something sweet to round off you feast.

"With more and more shoppers looking for convenient and affordable meals delivered to their doors, our trial with Deliveroo brings our great value hot food direct to customers’ homes," said Clodagh Moriarty, Sainsbury’s group chief digital officer.

"We’re committed to making it as quick and easy as possible for our customers to shop with us and we’ll be listening to their feedback throughout the trial to understand how we can best serve their hot food delivery needs. We’re excited to see what our customers think before deciding if, how and where we go next with the offer.”

Five stores are participating in the trial across the four cities, with the pizza counters extending their hours from the usual 8pm closing time to 10pm closing, Monday to Saturday, but keeping to the usual hours on Sunday.

So if you've got a hankering for a Sainsbury's sourdough pizza of an evening, rather than a Domino's, now you can live that dream.
