A horrifying reminder of how comparatively lucky we have it was delivered to a garden in Clapham, south London, over the weekend, when a stowaway hiding on the outside of an aeroplane fell as the plane lined up to land at Heathrow.
The Kenya Airlines Dreamliner was nearing the end of its eight-hour flight from Nairobi, when occupants of the house heard a loud noise in the garden. The man's body was found apparently frozen solid, so he'd clearly passed away from exposure to the elements earlier in his grim escape attempt. An initial investigation found some personal items in the plane's landing gear compartment, suggesting that was his hideaway.
A neighbour said: "There were a few of us in the house at the time and it was lucky only one of us was in the garden. Nobody would have survived being hit. The impact was horrific." [Sky News]
