O2 Finally Joins the Rest of Us Here in 2019 With the Announcement of Unlimited Data Plans

O2 is joining the ranks of network operators offering unlimited data plans on selected handsets and SIM-only contracts.

"We’re excited to be unveiling our Unlimited Data plans today," said O2 chief marketing officer, Nina Bibby. "Now there’s no limit to what you can do on O2. As the customer champion, O2’s mobile plans have always been designed to put customers in control, and with the option of unlimited data on our award winning network, we are now providing our customers with the ultimate choice."

The customer champion is a little late to party, following in the footsteps of Vodafone and EE, Virgin, and Three, who already offer unlimited data plans.

O2's SIM-only unlimited data plans start at £33 per month for 18 month contracts. You can take your pick from a number of 5G handsets the network offers as part of its 'Limitless' plans, including the Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 5G and Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ 5G, and Samsung Galaxy S10 5G.

The unlimited plans also extend to the Family Plan (including the O2 Family discount), O2 Open, and O2 Students plans. So now that the mobile operator is finally catching up to everyone else and making a big deal about it, you can go check out what's on offer on its website. Currently the plans are limited to 4G, but will encompass 5G when it goes live this October. Do check the terms and conditions, as you can expect a bunch of fair-use clauses, aka silly buggering, shoehorned in there.

Just last month, O2 CEO Mark Evans was pissing all over Vodafone's unlimited 5G plans, saying some of the options on offer weren't "real 5G". O2 has neglected to provide further details on the speeds of its 5G unlimited plans, but after all that trash talk, it had better be better than Vodafone's.
