London shopping destination for the super and nouveau rich Selfridges is opening a cinema in its Oxford Street premises this November, offering three screens' worth of fun for its well-heeled customers to enjoy.
The cinema is sort of a standalone business too, in that the department store is building a separate street entrance to allow access to the multiplex outside of usual shop opening hours, plus there'll be a way in from within the building's massive halls too. The largest of the three screens features just 80 seats, though, so it's likely to be one of those premium/comfort beasts with nice seats where tickets are massively expensive and the eating of food while you watch is encouraged.
The build is being done in partnership with Olympic Studios, which already runs two high-end cinemas in London that operate at the arthouse end of the spectrum, with all the Dolby Atmos and 3D enhancements the modern cinema-goer demands.
Stephen Burdge from Olympic Studios said: "We are thrilled to be teaming up with Selfridges to create an amazing new cinema destination. The Selfridges Cinema will be our third and, as is the case with each of our locations, it will be unique and one I hope film lovers will love going to." [Guardian]
