BBC Two Sitcom Upstart Crow is Coming to London's West End Next Year

David Mitchell is taking his portrayal of William Shakespeare to the stage next year with a theatre-adaptation of the BBC Two show Upstart Crow.

Ben Elton, creator of the sitcom, has prepared the stage-version for its debut in London's West End next year, running from February until April, although you can book tickets right now. Gemma Whelan (Game of Thrones' Yara Greyjoy) starts alongside Mitchell as the playwright's assitant, Kate.

Set in 1605, the plot sees Shakespeare in desperate need of a hit following the lukewarm reception of his first two attempts, while juggling his somewhat turbulent home-life. I've never seen the BBC sitcom, but presumably it's more of the same, and if you liked it on the telly, you can't go wrong with seeing it at the Gielgud Theatre. Ticket prices start from £26, and they seem to be selling fairly fast - for February at least. So if you're interested, you might want to get in there sharpish. [Londonist]
