The newly announced OnePlus 7T series doesn't have a 5G edition and CEO Pete Lau explains why.

The OnePlus 7T and OnePlus 7T Pro were announced last week and a 5G version of the handsets was conspicuously absent. According to OnePlus CEO Pete Lau, that's because 5G doesn't afford enough opportunity to warrant their existence.

"It’s not related to a Pro series or T-series or another device that certainly must have 5G," he explained at the London launch. "It’s more looking at what are the circumstances and what’s a suitable opportunity to build a 5G device."

He added that the feature would probably pop up next year, but again, stressed that 5G might not be standard on OnePlus' flagship devices because it's difficult to predict which territories will be 5G ready.

Next up for OnePlus is the OnePlus 8, with renders of the handset leaking earlier this month. As previously confirmed, all future OnePlus smartphoes will sport a 90Hz display [The Verge]
