Apostrophe Policeman Quits Explaining to a Disinterested World

By Gary Cutlack on at

Self-employed internet apostrophe overlord John Richards is giving it all up, for two reasons; he's 96 years old FFS, and has reached the point where he doubts people will ever truly learn or appreciate the difference between kid's and kids'.

Richards said on his gloriously old fashioned looking web site that: "We, and our many supporters worldwide, have done our best but the ignorance and laziness present in modern times have won!" as he laments the fact that people as a whole appear to care less about the correct use of apostrophes nowadays. Perhaps he also wants to dedicate himself to another pet hate of his and similarly-thinking folk -- the difference between less and fewer.

The good news is that his archive of horrors shall stay online for a while yet, if you need to see classics like ladie's, pie's and alway's spotted in the wild. [Apostrophe Protection Society via Metro]
