KCJ Training and Employment Solutions in Swindon is at the forefront of a new war on smoking, with the company's boss deciding to reward non-smokers with an extra four days of holiday each year as thanks for not continually wandering off to enjoy a well-earned cigarette with the other cool people outside the tradesman's entrance.
MD Don Bryden has done the maths, and explained: "...if you say it's three 10-minute smoke breaks a day that equates to 16 and a quarter days a year based on an eight-hour working day. Let's cut it by a third and say you only take one 10-minute smoking break a day, that adds up to just over five days," hence the handing out of... four days of additional holiday to non-smokers at the firm, to enjoy standing about outside the door of their choice, entirely guilt-free.
He's not about to sack all the smokers, mind, as that's probably against some laws. He added: "I'll work with the people who smoke but I do want to make sure that the ones who are sitting there working while the others take their ciggie break get some sort of compensation."
Next they'll come for the people who take their smartphones off to enjoy a leisurely 40-minute poo break. [BBC]
