Greggs' foray into vegan products is only just beginning by the sounds of it.
Vegan chicken could be next on the agenda at the high street bakery, after Greggs CEO Roger Whiteside noted that he had his eye on it. "[Vegan] chicken is a way forward. I have seen some good products out there," he reportedly said, although when asked for comment on the prospect of vegan poultry being added to the menu, the chain said it doesn't "have any plans for this right now."
Well, we might call bullshit on that, given how sneaky the store has historically been with unveiling its ever-growing range of vegan products. Greggs' vegan sausage roll has been a huge hit - both for consumers and Greggs' bottom line - with Whiteside saying that he wants vegan versions of all of the bakery's best-selling lines.
"If we can produce something that tastes just as good as the meat version, then that will sell very successfully. That’s what’s been shown with the vegan sausage roll.”

I'm sure the chicken bake has its fans, but I'm still over here hoping for a vegan sausage, cheese, and bean bake, because it's clearly the best but at the same time I don't want to chow down those grey mystery meat lumps. They've already got the sausage sorted; just chop it up and stick it in there. We'll keep you update on any chicken-related news in the meantime. [Metro]
