Samsung has announced its pocket-sized T7 Touch SSD with a built-in fingerprint sensor.
Available in 500GB, 1TB and 2TB, the upcoming device offers password protection and AES 256-bit hardware encryption, as well as the new fingerprint scanner for added security. So if you're popping down to Medieval Times, you can get sozzled and leave your hard drive there without worrying about any unsavoury consequences. Here that, Randy?
“Consumers who are constantly on the go between work, play and passion projects want to be able to securely carry their content with them," said Samsung's Dr. Mike Mang. “Now their data is secure thanks to the fingerprint recognition functionality incorporated into the product, which delivers industry-leading transfer speeds in a compact form factor.”
The speed of the SSD is another selling point, with read and write speeds of 1,050MB/s and 1,000MB/s respectively, making it twice as fast as Samsung's last SSD, the T5. It comes in black or silver, and on the connectivity front, features a USB Type-C-to-C cable, and a USB Type-C-to-A cable.
The T7 Touch will begin to roll out this month in over 3 countries initially, with the Portable SSD T7 expected in Q2 2020. It'll come in at $129.99 (£100) for 500GB, $229.99 (£176) for 1TB, and $399.99 (£306) for 2TB. [Samsung via Ubergizmo]
