OnePlus is set to unveil its budget OnePlus Z in India on July 10, according to the latest rumours.
OnePlus launched its latest line of smartphones this year with the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro, but a budget or 'lite' model was nowhere to be seen. After a flurry of rumours, it's thought that the company is going with an honest-to-goodness budget handset, revamping its OnePlus X under a new name - the OnePlus Z. Back in April, it looked like a July launch date would be on the cards, and now a OnePlus source (via AndroidCentral) has confirmed that's the case, and that it's making its debut in India - a huge market for the company - on July 10.
The OnePlus Z seems like it'll be a return to affordable phones, with a recent survey in India from the brand (via XDA Developers) hinting at possible specs as well as a price tag of ₹24,990 which works out at around £260. Recent comments made by CEO Pete Lau also suggest that OnePlus' next device is going to be significantly more affordable than its flagship, with the revelation that cheaper phones sell more units.
If the survey is anything to go on, specs for the handset may also have leaked, suggesting it'll sport a 6.55″ Super AMOLED display, and a 90Hz display of course, as well as an in-display fingerprint scanner. The OnePlus Z will be 5G ready, with 6GB RAM, 128GB storage, and will house a Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G chipset. We can also expect a rear triple camera setup (64MP + 16MP + 2MP), and a 16MP front-facing camera, and holepunch display. But none of this is confirmed, and that July 10 date may be pushed back because we're still in a pandemic and who knows what's around the corner. For now though, pencil it into your diary.
